The USL has finally released the full 2020 schedule for the Championship! Here’s the one for LouCity!
The first thing you’ll notice, which we pointed out earlier this week, is the four straight away matches to start the season. That’s difficult enough before you consider the fact that three of those matches are against teams that featured in the playoffs last season, and two of them were against the first and third playoff seeds. Yikes.
The good news is that City get a bye week between playing Pittsburgh and Indy. Why? No clue. However, if you come out of either of those games with three points, that’s a great start to the season. It’s also pretty great that after starting the season off with four away matches, City will get three home games in a row in April.
Louisville City won’t have a game on Derby Day this year, which is good, but will have some games close together on April 26 (home against NYRBII) and April 29 (away to Philly Union II), which is not great. There’s another murderous stretch in August where Morados will play four games in two weeks:
- August 15 away at Charlotte
- August 19 at home vs. Memphis
- August 25 at Miami
- August 29 at Tampa Bay
Then, things get back to normal. For a week, anyway, and then they play:
- September 4 at home against Hartford
- September 9 at St. Louis
- September 12 at home against Indy
I have to be honest with you, that sucks. That’s seven league games in 24 days. I guess we have to hope the Open Cup run is over by then or I’m not sure how the players’ legs will survive.
The full league schedule features 595 games played over 33 weeks, which is a few less than last year. It looks like the league is sticking with the same playoff format as last year, with ten teams qualifying and the bottom four playing play-in games to get into the conference quarterfinals.
We’ll have more when I get more time to digest the schedule further, but at least it’s here. VAMOS MORADOS!
