This afternoon, USL announced the schedule for the Eastern Conference participants in the 2020 Academy Cup competition. While Louisville City hasn’t made any press releases on the issue, a club side is set to participate in the event, to be held in Bradenton, Florida from February 14-17.

This particular cup competition is for the U17 age group, so this is NOT the U23 side we reported about last month during the league’s winter meetings.

Louisville City, which is in the “Premier” division of the competition, will play Pittsburgh Riverhounds on February 14 at 7pm, South Georgia Tormenta on February 16 at 10am, and FC Miami City on February 17 at 8am. There hasn’t been any news about whether any of these games will be broadcast at all, so don’t hold your breath about that. An academy-specific club account would be nice to follow, though WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE FRONT OFFICE/MEDIA ENTITY.

There’s another division called “Elite” that’s competing at the same time featuring teams from two Championship sides in North Carolina FC and Tampa Bay Rowdies, plus six other clubs. I have no idea what the difference in the divisions is, and the news release doesn’t say. I would note that NCFC and Tampa have long had youth teams and one competition may be more difficult than the other. That’s pure speculation, though, which is why you come here.

Hopefully we’ll hear more about the difference in the competitions and who might feature for the Lil’ Morados in the future from the club. Stay tuned!
