Ok so lots has happened since I tried to write my Purple Press post three times last night. First, Kyle Smith ALSO announced his departure from Louisville City. SO SAD! Then, Niall McCabe trolled a fair number of folks when he announced he was dedicating his life to Red Dead Redemption 2 for the foreseeable future. THEN, Orlando City, a model of operational excellence of late /s, announced that they’d signed both Greg and Kyle to their MLS squad for 2019. Congratulations are in order for both guys, as they’ve both worked extremely hard for their own success and that of Louisville City’s, and the move to the next level is more than deserved. We’ll miss them both.

In more positive news, the club announced that Tim Dobrowolski has signed a new contract with the club, the terms of which are located in a black hole somewhere around Alpha Centauri. We’re glad to have Dobro back! Also, rumors earlier this week that Louisville native and Lesotho international Sunny Jane would be City’s next signing were just confirmed by the club.

WHEW.

Ok, so let’s talk about Sunny for a minute. Jane (pronounced like “Johnny”) emigrated from Lesotho to Louisville when he was about 12 or 13 and quickly became a standout player at Trinity High School. Dave Ciroski liked him enough to give him a scholarship to Maryland, where he played all four years before entering the MLS SuperDraft. Going unsigned, Jane signed with the now-defunct Wilmington Hammerheads for two seasons, then spent two season in Richmond before somehow ending up in the Cambodian league for a year.

Sunny’s a creative attacking player who often plays as a 10, but can fill other attacking midfield roles. He’s not a prolific goalscorer, but more of a creator. Jane’s only 5’6″, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t at least play fullback or something. Just look at Danny Rose. But he’ll probably be part of Hackworth’s attacking three if I had to guess.

Welcome back to Louisville, Sunny! Also, be on the lookout for the 2019 full USL schedule here in about a half hour. It’s a busy day.
