I hate doing these things shorthand but I was in a car for 14 hours yesterday and can’t quite bring myself to the journalistic standard of excellence that both you and I hold myself to. Quick thoughts:
- Cam’s goal was one of a number of similar-looking chances where City created havoc in FCC’s penalty area. Cam finished his, the rest didn’t come off quite as well.
- I’ll gladly take all three points, but I don’t think City played particularly well. Part of that is down to Cincy’s energy, which was high all game, but several passing sequences that Morados usually connect went wanting last night.
- The Bitey Soccer Lion Kings decidedly had the run of play in the second half. I was pretty impressed with City’s resolve, especially as Cincy pushed hard for a goal late. Luckily, Alan Koch’s boys kept trying to pump in crosses from the wings, all of which ended in disappointment.
- Paco Craig’s save was awesome. I think he might have been part of the reason Cincy got on that break in the first half, but he more than made up for with that goal line clearance.
- I wasn’t sure what was going to happen when Shaun Francis came on for Pat McMahon in the second half, but it looked like Francis went over to his traditional left wing spot, Oscar flipped to the right, and Kyle Smith dropped back to right centerback.
- Cincy’s center midfield was in Paolo and Speedy’s back pocket all night. Those two did very well defensively, though, again, I’d have liked to see some better passing.
- Again, three points on the road against your big rival = nothing to complain about! My point, I guess, is that I don’t think City even played all that great and still got the win. Awesome sauce!
