Today marks the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Coopers. Happy birthday to us! We’ve come a long way from four pretty nerdy guys at a coffee shop in Crescent Hill getting excited about maybe possibly getting a pro soccer team to being the multifunctionfuntime behemoth we are today. So many memories! It’s been an incredible half-decade so far, and we can only hope our remaining half-decades will measure up as they roll on in perpetuity.

No time to reflect, though, because USL’s already dropped another re-brand on us to replace the last one which I think is only three years old, anyway. Next year, Morados will compete in the USL Championship, which is GOLD which supposedly represents the pinnacle of competition and EXCELLENCE, ACHIEVEMENT and PROSPERITY. No word yet on whether it will also include BETTER REFEREES or A FUNCTIONING STATISTICS PAGE ON THE WEBSITE. Some folks who are super into semantics got a little cranky about naming the divisions the same as the Football League does in England, but at the end of the day, it’s recognizable and makes common sense, so I’m not too busted up about it.

More interesting, though, is in their fun FAQ portion of the press release, the USL brass said this:

Currently the United Soccer League is focused on establishing a successful new third division in USL League One to help fill out the professional U.S. soccer structure, which is a necessary precursor to any implementation of a promotion and relegation system. That said, the new structure does lend itself well to some form of promotion and relegation in the future.

HMMMMMMM. HOW ABOUT SOME LINKS TO GO WITH THAT SAUCE?
