When I was growing up in the 90’s, 1960’s music experienced a huge renaissance in the U.S. The Beatles, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, they all of the sudden were popular again. I think part of that had to do with ABC’s the Beatles: Anthology, which I watched like my life depended on it. VH1 made a whole TV network out of that idea with Behind the Music, which was super great. Another reason might be because, well, the music is really good. Yet another might have to do with the fact that 60’s music had counterculture element to it that hadn’t really been well-reproduced for a few decades, so might as well recycle it.

However, I was thinking about a Doors song this morning, “Hello, I love you,” and man is it aggressive. Can you imagine if you were a girl or young woman and some dude you’ve never met walks up to you on the street and says, “Hi, you’re hot, I love you, let me jump in your game.” Chances are good you’d mace that dude in the face while running away trying to figure out what “jump in your game” meant. There are a LOT of songs like that from that era. At least the Beatles asked if they could hold your hand first.
