It’s Derby season! I mean, it’s been Derby season for more than a week now, but still! Even if you don’t like horse racing or all the hoopla associated with the First Saturday in May, you can’t help but get caught up in the hype and general good feeling in the city this time of year. Yeah, spring in general helps, but the Derby is too much fun to ignore. What’s more, this year, LouCity (kinda) gets to participate! I’m talking about the game next Tuesday against Memphis. It should a) be a fun match against a team that might become a rival someday, and b) be a fun match because it’s Derby week and if you aren’t a little hungover every day at work anyway you’re doing it wrong.
It’s been a little bit since I regaled you with news concerning anyone other than Los Morados, so sit back while I tell you some.
- Indy Eleven got their stadium deal approved without the MLS requirement attached! This is obviously good for them, but also good for the continuation of the oldest, most prestigious and famous rivalry in human history, LIPAFC.
- Oh yeah, we picked up an emergency 4th goalkeeper over the weekend because this year’s team picked up some kind of bad injury juju in Florida that it hasn’t managed to outrun yet.
- A big youth club merger is happening in Charlotte, giving the Independence developmental control over more than 12,000 players. If they’re lucky, one of them will help the senior team escape from the bottom of the table with Hartford.
