I often think about starting my own soccer team or club. Not a pro team, I’ve had enough of that. I’m just talking about a group of guys/gals that plays once or twice a week in a local league. This is ironic (to me) since I have never played competitive soccer ever and am over 35. But on the occasions I do get to play in one-off pickup games, I love it. It’s a blast, the people I’ve gotten to play with are usually pretty nice in that they don’t point out my utter lack of ability, everyone usually drinks beer afterwards. It’s great.
So, yeah, I think about that from time to time, things like names of the team or club, people I’d contact to play for us, and possible shirt sponsors and hangout bars and whether it would be worth the time and effort to build an actual organization that would survive my short attention span. Then I remember that I have a lot of young kids and no time and a wonderful wife whose patience with my soccer infatuation is pretty thin as it is. So it looks like St. Matthews Saints SC will have to be a project for someone else. For now!
- The club’s official talking points going into the weekend’s match against Nashville. The good and bad news is they know the injury situation is difficult, and won’t get easier with the upcoming Open Cup match and other schedule congestion. Uggghhhh
- The USL set a single week attendance record last week.
- Think twice before going to Kansas City, friends
