I try pretty hard to stay up on current events, which is somewhat counterproductive. First, reading various newspapers and other outlets is time consuming. If I’m doing that, I’m probably NOT doing something else, like working, or paying attention to one of my family members, or pwning some noob on the internet that needs to get pwned.
Second, the stuff I read about has a tendency to make me more than a little perturbed. I try to live a life with as few stressors as I can, so I religiously follow a lower division soccer team in a system without promotion and relegation, have three kids, two dogs, and am a litigator. Obviously, I’d be totes stress-free if it wasn’t for THE NEWS.
BUT. If I didn’t follow current events, I would be less-informed, which is a quality about others that I very much dislike. Being uninformed, I mean. We are surrounded by means by which we can learn all kinds of things about just about anything. There’s no real reason you can’t at least read a New York Times morning briefing or SOMETHING every day. More importantly, if I didn’t keep up with the news, I wouldn’t be able to lord my informed-ness over the less-informed, which is what my self-esteem is based on. IT’S SO HARD BEING THIS WELL-READ, Y’ALL.
Speaking of reading, here are some links:
- USL’s weekly POWER RANKINGS. FLOUR RANKINGS: 1. Corn; 2. White 3. pretty sure there aren’t other kinds
- The speculation over whether Nashville would be in the league for one year or two looks to be over.
- I like reading about fun team-building exercises that managers put their players though. It humanizes the group a bit – “look at them out there having fun like normal people!” But then there are some managers that use them as means to bilk kids out of money, which is hilarious (in this particular context).
