Hey, y’all! It’s been a minute. I was on vacation last week in a locale that basically didn’t have internet, and it. Was. Awesome.

No Tweets, no notifications about politics that sent me through the roof, no phone calls, no texts, no emails. I want to go back there!

The byproduct of my brief luddite-like existence was that I didn’t get to see a minute of the last three Louisville City soccer games. I missed the win against Loudoun (yay!), the somewhat heartbreaking Open Cup loss against FCC (LOUD BOOING!!) and the last match against RB2 (grumbling). But I did take a quick look at the numbers, which might make the loss a little bit easier to swallow.

  • City lost the possession battle for the first time all season, but still managed to take 14 shots with 6 on target, which is pretty good. More accurate shooting is a positive thing.
  • Baby Bulls, though, took 23 shots with 10 on target and that’s very bad. But for a reportedly heroic performance from Chris Hubbard, things could have ended up much worse.
  • Passing was about even from both teams in terms of attempts and completed passes. Louisville City actually passed better in the opposition half than New York did, but neither team really passed all that well – around 65% overall and under 60% in the other team’s half.
  • City had 46 clearances, which is a holy shit number. That might be the one that stands out the most.

It was a bad game. I can’t imagine the heavy legs from a 120 minute contest in Cincinnati the prior Wednesday or the absence of Brian Ownby, Shaun Francis, or Speedy Williams helped matters at all for Morados. But away losses to good teams tend to happen, and it’s down to the team and the staff to get them ready for a suddenly maybe not so bad Charlotte Independence this weekend.

In other news:

  • Franno and Speedy both got the start for Jamaica’s CONCACAF Gold Cup opener last night against Honduras. Our dudes both played all 90 minutes and saw out a 3-2 victory for the Reggae Boyz.
  • Yet another soccer league is going to try to launch this year, this one in the “fourth” tier. Maybe.
  • Frankly, that’s about it. The stadium is still getting more stadium-y every day, which is some consolation for this up-and-down season we’re having so far. LET’S GO CONSTRUCTION [CLAP] [CLAP] [CLAPCLAPCLAP]
  • See y’all tomorrow.
