It’s tax day! Tax day is like Bizzarro Christmas. No day of the year is more dreaded, and everyone is always relieved when it’s over. Also, no one except the Treasury Department gets gifts, and even then they just have to turn around and hand those gifts to Raytheon and Lockheed-Martin or whatever. The parents who told their kids “‘Tis better to give than to receive” just four months ago are now grumbling their way to the mailbox to drop in checks and paperwork they don’t want to give, nor the Treasury to receive.

You might not have had to worry as much about Tax Day because you filed an extension, but you still had to fill out MORE paperwork just to delay filing the actual return. The best part about filing extensions is you still have to throw some money at the US Treasury, but still get your return done by October or something or face fines and penalties. And if you’ve ever tried arguing with the Treasury about who made a mistake with your return, you’ll know it’s almost as fun and effective as arguing with a rock with a face painted on it.

I also think it’s funny that the same political apparatus that announced we’d be filing taxes on a form the size of a postcard passed a tax reform bill that literally no one read all the way through and contained margins full of handwritten changes, resulting in filing documents that are basically the same as the ones we already file. GOVERNMENT!
