Summer is finally here! I mean, this is Kentucky, so in reality it’s been here since the day after the Derby, but today’s the summer solstice. Celebrate the day of the year the sun reaches its highest point (at 10:07 a.m.!) by doing what the Swedes do on Midsummer: dance around a maypole, eat a bunch of herring, and empty most of the contents of a bottle of Svedka!
A drink in my hand
My snow up against the burning sand
Prob’ly getting gorgeously tanned
In summer
Theseus and Hermia would’ve had a lot more fun if they’d just done that, IMO.
Anyway, you’ve got more than enough reason to celebrate, Midsummer or not, thanks to Louisville City’s big Round of 16 Open Cup win against Nashville last night. Paco Craig found redemption in the form of a header early on in the first half to put City ahead off a corner kick. Paolo DelPiccolo doubled the scoring off another set play from a short corner midway through the second for what was ultimately the game-winner. Morados gave up a goal off a Nashville corner that could have been defended better. Ultimately, it made no difference, and City moves on to play Chicago Fire on July 18 at Toyota Park or Field or Stadium or whatever it is in Bridgeview, IL. Book your Bridgeview hotels now!
We’ve got another match coming up in a couple days, so you’ll need to recompose yourselves and bear down for those quickly. Here are some links:

- Louisville City announced a groundbreaking ceremony for the new stadium to be held on June 28!
- Australia may not win on the field in the World Cup, but they’re certainly winning in the stands.
- A bigger win than any other discussed today was the victory women in Iran won by being allowed to watch their national team play for the first time in the national stadium, Azadi.
