We’re back! I missed Friday because, well, things happen and it’s a very weird year. The good news is, you didn’t really miss anything groundbreaking from a Louisville City or USL standpoint. You probably won’t for a while, at this rate. Clubs are presently banned from training together until April 5 at the earliest, and the league is even handing out fines to those that violate the moratorium.
Most people, me included, are working from home now. Even if I was just working at home by myself, I wouldn’t have been in love with that because there are so many other things as my house I am tempted to engage with rather than work. Add in my wife, three kids, and two dogs, and it’s much more difficult. Now, in addition to being a lawyer/part time soccer blogger, I’m also a teacher, mediator, judge, executioner, janitor, and small events planner. Being a parent requires most of those things, anyway, but not in such large doses all the damn time. It’s an adjustment phase.
Long story short, working from home is not the super fun, relaxing enterprise some might have thought. The good news is, there are more opportunities for exercise, and I’ve been taking advantage of that. Many in the soccer community have done the same thing! My kids have a DribbleUp ball they use every day, they occasionally use the Techne app, and Kentucky Youth Soccer has been releasing daily training videos to help kids occupy their time and stay sharp during this layoff. Mario Sanchez, who wisely doesn’t have Twitter, has even gotten in on the action:
Even if you’re a noob soccer player, just getting outside and doing stuff like this is better than nothing. I expect all of you to be able to immediately contribute to a rec league soccer team as soon as all of these non-essential businesses are allowed to be open again, or whenever it’s safe to congregate with groups larger than five. VAMOS MORADOS!
