Wynder and Ugarak return to Academy
Louisville City announced yesterday that Elijah Wynder and Muamer Ugarak had signed new Academy contracts with Louisville City for 2020. Wynder was the club’s first ever academy signing last season. No news on any official new Academy signees, but I get the feeling there won’t be many.
Why? Because, at least for these two, they’re high school players that are eligible to play with the senior team. They aren’t getting paid by the club, so they’re able to keep their eligibility for joining an NCAA program if they decide to go that route. However, once they accept admission to an NCAA program, they won’t be eligible to play with the senior team again without either exhausting their college eligibility or leaving school early. They would, however, be able to play for City’s U23 team while still in school. The NCAA is a great, totally legitimate, not-cash-grab organization that we all very much respect.
In any event, it’s great that there are two kids in this city good enough to play first-team soccer for a team like Louisville City. We’re glad they’re back!
More transfers, etc.
- 2019 El Paso star Sebastian Velásquez has agreed to terms with Miami FC for 2020. The Colombian is a very, very good creative midfielder that I’m betting MFC builds most of their attack around. Miami is not. Playing. Around.
- North Carolina FC has worked out a loan deal with Celtic FC for US youth international Manny Perez.
