LouCity, WDRB Media announce broadcast deal for 2020
The club announced yesterday in a press release that WDRB Media would continue to broadcast City’s games locally this season. 28 league games will feature on WBKI, four will be on My58TV, and two are national broadcasts on ESPN’s TV networks. ESPN+ will also stream all of the matches, but if you don’t want to shell out $5.99 a month for the service or the Disney+ bundle, WDRB will stream all of its local broadcasts on the WDRB NOW app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire devices, and Roku.
WDRB has been a great media partner for Louisville City the last two seasons, and I’m glad to see they’re back on board for a third. I’d love to see a local broadcast crew call our games, too, but I’m sure there are financial and contractual concerns that prevent that from happening. USL Productions’ talent (Mike Watts, Devon Kerr, Tyler Terens) is pretty good, anyway, so it’s not a huge issue. Glad to see this is done!
No word yet on a radio broadcast. I don’t know how many listeners it ever got, and replacing Kevin Kernen will probably be a tall task for play-by-play. We’ll see if anything happens on that front.
Other bits:
- LouCity’s last Wasatch Winter Cup match is tomorrow morning at 11! This one’s actually going to be streamed, so we can see the boys in action for the first time this preseason! I’ll have more later today in the March to the Match, but get excited!
- Here’s a neat overhead layout of LouCity’s proposed overhaul to Champions Park, thanks to Chad Mills at WDRB. More to come after another Metro Council hearing, I’m sure.
- Jorge Herrera, the ageless wonder of Charlotte Independence, announced his retirement this week. He’ll be leaving the Jacks and heading over to Charlotte’s new MLS side in the front office. This isn’t great news for Independence fans, as it only muddies the waters concerning the two clubs’ relationship and whether they’ll be able to coexist once the MLS
- Finally, Atlantic City’s Joe Fala made Red Bulls II’s preseason roster. This is newsworthy only because this guy is from New Jersey and is named Joe Fala, which is clearly a misspelling of Joe Vala, Coopers/Groove Machine/National Anthem legend. Surely Fala will correct the error and assume an internship under Vala.
