We’re back after our holiday break! Unfortunately, just for a day before the weekend hits, and then next week there’s New Year’s Eve Day and New Year’s Day, and nothing important generally happens in American soccer on those days so we’ll be off then, too. But we’re here TODAY, and that’s what’s matters!!?!
However, truth be told, nothing’s happened in the USL since Monday other than some players firing off holiday tweets and some player signings in the western conference that don’t really matter to us. I’m digging kinda deep for content today, is what I’m saying. Here goes:
- North Carolina FC is moving forward with their stadium development project in downtown Raleigh, MLS2Charlotte be damned. What’s interesting is they already have a really nice facility in Cary, but apparently their owner Steve Malik has bigger things in mind.
- Speaking of NCFC, they finally added a player this week, Brazilian defensive midfielder and American soccer journeyman Pecka.
- Finally, there was a ton of soccer played elsewhere the past day or so, but none of it was as exciting as the first leg of the Liga MX Apertura final in Monterrey, capped off by this golazo from Rogelio Funes Mori. If you’re starved for late-night soccer during the USL offseason, I can’t recommend Liga MX highly enough. It’s always super entertaining and it’s pretty easy to find if you have a cable subscription. If not, TUDN has an app that you can subscribe to their streaming service. Do that.
Have a great weekend! Here’s a cat that got stuck in a sweater.
