One more sleep until turkey! The good news is you’ve got UEFA Champions League soccer to tide you over until tonight when the party will really start. Barcelona v. Dortmund is probably the match of the day even if both teams aren’t quite up to their usual standards in 2019. There’s also some Liga MX playoff games tonight, though none featuring the usual big drawing clubs. Hats off to Necaxa for even qualifying!
Speaking of big drawing clubs, LouCity kept the USL news cycle rolling yesterday announcing the signing of former FC Cincinnati and Philadelphia Union midfielder Corben Bone and his hair. Bone had spent the last four seasons in the Queen City and scored 16 goals in 106 USL appearances. Alan Koch brought him along for FCC’s inaugural MLS campaign but he only saw the field six times and didn’t score.
His most recent MLS misadventure notwithstanding, Bone is automatically one of the top midfielders in the Championship. He’s got some personal experience with John Hackworth, who was his manager with the Union back in 2014. Bone adds more experience and savvy to an already experienced and savvy LouCity midfield, plus a little bit of bite. While he’s generally considered to be an attacking mid, I expect he’ll be used a bit more centrally in Hackworth’s 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 setups.
Following Monday’s announcement of the returning roster for 2020, I’d personally been hoping for a few more young players to the roster, but it’s impossible to complain about Bone’s addition to the team. He has the skill and experience to make the squad even better, rather than being a development project.
The Purple Press is taking Thanksgiving Day off tomorrow, so don’t come looking for us. Why would you be on the internet on Thanksgiving anyway? Don’t be that guy/gal. Have a great holiday!
