Sorry about the skipped Purple Press day yesterday, but to be fair, not much of note happened on Wednesday. On Thursday, however…
Mario Sanchez named head coach of Louisville City U23s
Granted, a lot of us already pretty much knew that LouCity had a U23 side that would be playing in USL League 2 in 2021. But now it’s official! If you listened to Barrel Proof earlier this week, John Hackworth talked a bit about the sub-professional/academy side of Louisville City a bit. He specifically mentioned that Mario Sanchez’s job description at the club was changing. Sanchez will be focusing more on coaching going forward, while the community relations side will be more the province of *gulp* Evan Floyd. Just kidding, Evan, you’re awesome and will do a great job. Assuming you read this, ever.
The League 2 (formerly PDL) schedule will be released pretty soon. Rumor has it the U23s won’t be playing at LFS. Woehrle Field in Clarksville seems like a more likely destination per the league, but nothing’s been confirmed by the club. Either way, this is an important step in Louisville City’s evolution as a club, and we’re pretty excited about it. Congratulations, too, to Mario Sanchez and best of luck in a very tough League 2 conference that includes four-time champions Flint City Bucks.
MOAR TRANSFERS PLZ
- Striker Dane Kelly is rumored to be joining Charlotte Independence, marking the best move that club’s made since firing gaelic football manager Jim McGuiness in the middle of last season.
- Longtime Pittsburgh Riverhound midfielder Kevin Kerr announced his retirement and will join the coaching staff in Steel City.
- Miami FC signed veteran goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre.
Hopefully that’s all for this week. Have a great weekend!
