Today is the 243rd anniversary of the founding of the Vermont Republic! I bet you never knew such a thing existed, but it did. What we now know as Vermont was once part of British Quebec, New York, and New Hampshire. However, when the Revolutionary War broke out, Vermonters said “good, a distraction!” and founded their own country while the 13 colonies duked it out with the British. The Vermont Republic continued its totally independent and autonomous existence outside of the United States, largely because New York was being snotty and didn’t want to let them into the Union. However, in 1791 they relented, and Vermont was admitted to the US as the 14th state, to be quickly followed by our own Kentucky.
Cam Back?
Howie Lindsey said on the radio last weekend that there was a lot of big news that was going to drop soon, and I can’t imagine a story much bigger than JOC’s return to LouCity. However, this one is a pretty close second if it’s true: Cameron Lancaster is reportedly returning to Louisville for the 2020 season. The story was broken by Phil Grooms, a St. Louisan who hosts for the USL Show podcast and is usually a pretty reliable writer.
Those of us who have been asking for another striker in the squad may be getting their wish…if Cam can stay healthy. His short tenure in Nashville was supposed to be his springboard into MLS, but 2019 only saw him score six goals and one assist in 19 appearances, missing 14 matches due to injury.
Cam’s a LouCity original, though, and I’d be over the moon were he to rejoin the team. Let’s hope this rumor’s got legs!
Other, less cool transfer news
- Phoenix Rising has somehow opened up a portal for some of its best players to get into MLS, with striker Adam Jahn transferring to Atlanta United and midfielder James Musa going to Minnesota United. Also, if you aren’t following Jeff Rueter on Twitter, start.
- Memphis signed a quality right back yesterday in Mark Segbers, formerly of Orange County and then Swope Park. Maybe Tim Howard knows what he’s doing?
- One-time LouCity loan Collin Fernandez is joining Tacoma Defiance for 2020.
- Hartford Athletic, which apparently doesn’t have a PR director, signed Brazilian defender Matheus Silva for 2020. Hartford might actually not be that bad this coming season?
Have a great Wednesday and VAMOS MORADOS
