We’re late to the game on these, but they’re important:
Jonathan Lintner with the Courier-Journal reported yesterday that Louisville City has finally signed a goalkeeper. Scott Goodwin, who has played between the pipes for most of the preseason, is now an official LCFC player! Goodwin played four seasons at the University of North Carolina, a very strong college program that won the NCAA Tournament his sophomore year, and spent last year with the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks. With a name like that, they could easily be a minor league baseball team, but I digress. Goodwin is 6 feet tall, very athletic and very quick. MLS scouts put him in the Jon Busch and Nick Rimando category, which is definitely nothing to sniff at. If we have a keeper like that, expect a lot of clean sheets this season.
Less official, but fairly likely, is the loan deal of Orlando City forward Sidney Rivera. Rivera, as you may recall, was OCSC’s 63rd pick in the MLS SuperDraft this past winter, which made his chances of making the Lions’s senior team dicey. Rivera posted Sunday on Twitter that he was on his way to the Derby City. Neither club has said anything about Rivera’s Twitter feed, the flight, or what he had for breakfast, but given the circumstances, it seems fairly likely he’ll be in purple and gold for us come the next couple of weeks.
