Last Saturday night, AO Louisville president Joey Cecil and I were tweeting back and forth about how if Louisville City was going to try to create offense off of crosses from wide areas into the box, that might not be Cam Lancaster’s best skill set. Just moments later, Cam headed in a sweet short cross from Niall McCabe that made us look very dumb, but apparently Joseph and I weren’t the only ones interested in a more dominant aerial threat, because:
Today, Louisville City announced the signing of forward Jason Johnson! When I saw the email from the club in my inbox, my mind immediately flashed to this video:
Johnson is a physical but skillful force in the box with a high work rate. He’s got a lot of professional and international experience that City is going to find very valuable, I think. I haven’t watched enough of him to get a handle on much else, but he’s definitely a player that’s going to be a good addition to the first team.
City has already been a good home to a couple of other Reggae Boyz in Speedy Williams and Shaun Francis. Franno, while no longer with the first team, still lives in Louisville and is a coach in the Academy system. I have a feeling those two were useful in recruiting Johnson to the Derby City.
This is exciting! Johnson is even eligible to play in Wednesday’s match against Kansas City II so we might see him get a substitute appearance depending on how things go. Probably not, but maybe! Let’s all welcome JJ to Louisville!
