Per a couple sources on always-reliable Twitter, Louisville City FC has a loan deal in place to secure Chicago Fire’s Collin Fernandez. No idea on the length of the loan, but I’m guessing it’s for the remainder of the season. Fernandez, yet another attacking midfielder, joins after signing as a homegrown player with the Fire last summer at age 17. Fernandez hasn’t actually played in a game yet for the Fire’s senior team, but he came up through their development academy, and actually has gotten a few call-ups for the U.S. Youth National U-18 team. That’s a first for Louisville City.
How Fernandez will fit in on this roster, given its glut of guys playing the exact same position, is anyone’s guess. Since he hasn’t really caught on with the Fire, maybe their technical staff wants to convert him to more of a holding role in midfield? He’s not particularly tall or big, but the report on him is high on his speed.
Another interesting wrinkle here is the fact that St. Louis FC is Chicago’s USL affiliate. IS HE A SPY? A DOUBLE SPY? Either way, it’s gonna be fun to find out! Welcome to Louisville, Collin Fernandez!
