Racing Louisville signed its third player to its inaugural roster today, Jamaican international Cheyna Matthews! Matthews was a national champion at Florida State and went to the Washington Spirit in the 2016 NWSL Draft. She’s another attacker with international experience, something that is quickly becoming commonplace on Racing’s roster.
Racing signed Matthews after the league’s waiver deadline, as Washington Spirit declined to renew her contract after the 2020 season. She won’t be able to join Christy Holly’s squad immediately, as she’s set to deliver her second child next month, but the player and club are confident she’ll be able to have a significant impact in Louisville very soon.
Matthews is another exciting attacking player, and Racing is pretty fortunate to have gotten her off of waivers. The move smacks of scouting savvy, something we should all be pleased to see. Let’s all welcome the newest Woman in Lavender, Chenya Matthews!
