MARCH: The third month of the year, not something we’re gonna be doing for a soccer game in 2020.
WHO, AGAIN? It’s the second of at least four installments of LIPAFC in 2020! I wasn’t super excited about this game last time around, but since then, City’s picked up seven points of an available nine, and that’s a recipe for happiness and success. Meanwhile, Indy’s leveled off a little bit, with two wins, two losses and a draw in their last five matches. The Elevens still sit on top of Group E, but their perch is slightly more wobbly than it was a few weeks ago.
That said, this is still a team featuring the league’s leading goalscorer and a more focused Andrew Carleton, which means they’re still a handful. They don’t play the most visually appealing soccer, but they do play effective soccer. Your mileage will vary on how much you like that sort of thing.
Indy’s still got 15 goals and three clean sheets through nine matches. Their last time out, they rode a very early Tyler Pasher goal to a 1-0 win against Pittsburgh that featured a red card against Ayoze, who is suspended for tonight’s match as a result. That’s a potential boon for John Hackworth, but Morados still can’t take Indy any less seriously.
This game is going to be about two questions, mostly. First, can Louisville City contain Tyler Pasher and Andrew Carleton? Second, are City going to be able to unbalance a solid Indy defense and put at least two goals in the net?
It’s going to take a lot of perseverance to accomplish either objective. Pasher is probably going to have a couple of good chances to score. Keeping up with him is hard. City also are going to have to be prepared to keep chipping away at Indy in possession if they can’t nick an early goal. Finding a way behind Indy’s back three is hard, and finding space between their lines could be even harder. However, I like the Speedy-Paolo-Bone arrangement’s chances better after a couple more games under their belt than I did during Part I of this matchup.
These are always hard fought, good soccer games. I don’t expect tonight to be any different. VAMOS MORADOS.
