PRE-MATCH TAILGATE
Join us and the Lou City Tailgaters for all your pre-match festivity needs! Tailgating typically starts around four (4) hours prior to kickoff but you may find a few die-hards out there earlier. The tailgate is supporter run and supporter funded. We recommend BYOB and food contributions. If you do partake we ask that you contribute to the general fund. The main tailgate is located at the corner of N Preston St and E Witherspoon St in the Riverside Parking Cobalt Lot. The Coopers are joined here by several other SGs, so come say hello to everyone!
PRE-MATCH MARCH
About 30-40 minutes prior to kickoff we’ll start the March to the Match. Join us as we march around the tailgate lot, up Preston St, and into the east entrance. Flags will be waving, smoke will be popping, and we’ll be chanting and singing the whole way!
POST-MATCH CELEBRATION
After the match concludes, we have beers at Against the Grain which is conveniently located right outside the Slugger Field gate. Make sure you order a pint of the Coopers-inspired Ball Control! $0.50 from every pour (on home match days) of Ball Control goes to Shirley’s Way, a most excellent local charity helping families of those afflicted with cancer.
WHO, AGAIN?
This match marks City’s first contest against the Independence in 2018. Charlotte is doing their usual thing where they’re really hot for three to six weeks, and then get very cold for a corresponding period. They lost leading scorer Enzo Martinez to Colorado in the offseason, but the Alex is still around, making things complicated for teammates and opponents alike.
Charlotte has lost three of its last five matches, having only beaten Nashville a couple weeks ago. That said, they’re still pretty good at home, going 5-4-1 on the season so far in Matthews. Jorge Herrera leads the team with nine goals, followed by Cordell Cato with eight. Hererra and Alex Martinez are also the team’s leading chance creators. Andrew Dykstra will probably be between the pipes while Brandon Miller, once the darling of the league, probably glowers on the bench.
This is obviously a tough game for Louisville City no matter the opponent. Coming off a bad loss in the Open Cup on Wednesday and lacking a permanent head coach are enough to make this game difficult before knowing how mercurial Charlotte can be. Add in the fact that Oscar’s out on a red card suspension and things look even more dour. But hey, it’s still Louisville City soccer, and these guys still need your support, so go give it to them. Screw Charlotte, anyway.
VAMOS MORADOS, VAMOS A GANAR!
