Our more or less weekly roundup of USL news. Best enjoyed with coffee or the beer your friends left in your fridge last weekend.
The first weekend of USL games is in the books for 2015, everyone! There were only three games, but they featured real teams with uniforms and everything! Here’s more:
- Seattle Sounders FC 2 4:2 Sacramento Republic FC. And it wasn’t really that close. Tough way to start for the defending USL champs, and maybe a shot fired across the rest of the Western Conference that SSFC2 is totes legit.
- Charleston Battery 3:2 Toronto FC II. Tworonto will probably feel a little hard done by this result, as they were up 0-2 within fifteen minutes of kickoff, but credit to the Battery for somehow battling back and getting to the top of the Eastern Conference table to start the season. Charleston’s Taylor Mueller, who has a great first name, scored the game winner in stoppage time.
- L.A. Galaxy II 0:0 Real Monarchs SLC. Yawn, amirite? One of the kind of unfair things about these “2” teams is that first team guys go on rehab assignments there, so A.J. De La Garza featured in the back on this one. LAGII are under the impression they dominated the game but couldn’t finish chances, but that’s what they all say.
Bonus: Old man fights are hilarious.
