Sorry about not writing a post-game report on the NYRB II game. Fondy scored, the starters got tired, and we lost. Not much more to it than that. BUT! Lots of other less-sad stuff happened around the league last week, so let’s talk about it:
- All but one playoff spot in the West has been claimed for quite a while now, but this makes it pretty much official. Tulsa is above Seattle in the table (tied on points but the ‘Necks own the head to head matchup), but S2 has two games in hand on Tulsa, and a two on their jerseys. What won’t the Sounders do to make Clint Dempsey feel appreciated? So while it remains to be seen whether Seattle blows their next two games against Orange County and Austin, I feel like they’re bound to at least pick up a point out of the deal. Better luck next time, Ruffnexx, even if you did cap your season off in style.
- In the East, some deck chairs got shuffled, but we’re not much closer to figuring out who gets the last playoff spot between Richmond, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Charlotte. Charlotte beat Wilmington during the week and picked up a draw at home over the weekend. Harrisburg drew St. Louis, Pittsburgh drew with Charleston, and Richmond drew with the Rhinos. Makes the last three games (two for Richmond) that much more interesting, doesn’t it?
- Rochester’s boring scoreless draw over the weekend makes them league champions with three games to play. [sad face]
- Sacramento Republic’s Tommy Stewart won Goal of the Month in August, even though it was Aodhan Quinn’s that actually made SportsCenter. Clearly we’re going to need to get better at stuffing ballot boxes, City fans.
