Louisville City just issued a press release stating that midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye has been called into the Canadian National Team’s upcoming camp ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer. Kaye has previously featured for Canada’s U23 squad in Qatar, missing the start of the USL season.
This is great news for Mark-Anthony, and we’re beyond excited for him. With any luck, he’ll make enough of an impression to make the team’s 26 man roster for the Gold Cup in July. It’s an honor to play for your country in any competition, and Kaye has certainly earned his opportunity.
This is not great news for Louisville City, however. MAK was starting to establish himself as the starting left winger/attacking midfielder for James O’Connor. Losing him to national team duty isn’t great for the starting attacker band, just as they are trying to find a rhythm in the final third. That said, this is a great chance for Richard Ballard or Niall McCabe to step up and make an impact.
Kaye will be available for tomorrow’s US Open Cup match against Cincinnati as well as Saturday against Charleston Battery. Let’s all wish him best of luck with Canada, and bring us back some poutine or whatever.
