Your daily(?) Louisville City news roundup, most of which has little to do with Louisville City.

What a weekend, y’all! The NBA All-Star Game, Fergie’s assault on the National Anthem, US Olympic non-medals, the President’s Twitter account – this one had it all. I, myself, went with my family and some friends to Great Wolf Lodge up in the Ohio hinterlands so that my kids could be sufficiently worn out.

Winter is tough when you have young kids. They’re so full of energy, but the weather outside isn’t exactly conducive to playing. My yard is all muddy, the weather is dicey, and we do enough laundry WITHOUT having to deal with mud-saturated socks and sweatpants. I’m not about to add to that load. Of laundry.

So, one thing that we’ve discovered, in an effort to expend youthful energy without adding to the laundry basket, is Great Wolf Lodge. It’s basically a summer-camp themed indoor water park. It’s very campy, as you might guess, and a little expensive, but it certainly gets the job done. They have beer and pizza and water slides. The people-watching is top notch. My kids slept the entire car ride home. Hard to beat, IMO.

TO THE SOCCER STUFF:

  • Louisville City kinda sorta announced the time and location of the season ticketholder-only preseason game against Young Harris College. By “kinda-sorta” I mean they tweeted about it and updated the fixture list on the website. Word is they sent out an email, too, but I haven’t gotten it. If you’re a season ticket holder and haven’t gotten one, either, apparently you can email tickets@louisvillecityfc.com and they’ll address the issue.
  • Las Vegas Lights sure know how to stay in the headlines. We may never see them play in person, and that would be a shame – their most recent preseason match ended 3-2 to Vancouver but wasn’t without some fireworks. Manager Chelis got ejected from the match in the second half and had a cigarette break in the stands to calm himself down about it.
  • In news that’s a little closer to home, Tampa Bay Rowdies lost a preseason match to Montreal Impact in their new all-green kits. Jochen Graf scored the Rowdies’ lone goal.
  • Charleston Battery started off their 14th Carolina Challenge Cup with a nice belt-notch, beating Minnesota United 1-0 behind an Ian Svantesson goal.
