Louisville City just announced this morning that the club has signed veteran defender Sean Totsch for the 2017 season. Totsch comes to us from the vaunted defense of the Rochester Rhinos, where he won the USL Playoffs in 2015.

When we think about “Louisville City 2017 roster needs,” back line help doesn’t spring to mind. However, before now there were only three guys on the roster who could do work there, Reynolds, Morad, and Craig. So Totsch is sort of a depth signing, though he’ll be given a chance to make the starting XI during training next month.

Make no mistake, Totsch is a good player, skilled at defending aerial balls (an area of weakness at times for Elsie), and playing the ball out of the back. O’Connor sees him as a more versatile player, able to play fullback and central midfield as well, both areas where the club could use some depth. In a way, this is another one of O’Connor’s Swiss Army knife signings, a player who can plug lots of different holes in a team a la Guy Abend or Andrew Lubahn. Let’s welcome Sean Totsch to Louisville!
