Louisville City FC announced today that the club has signed two midfielders whose names automatically go to the top of the LCFC All-Name team: Denmark’s Magnus Rasmussen and Republic of Ireland’s Niall McCabe. Just to prevent any confusion, no, these guys don’t play for their respective national teams (YET!), that’s just where they’re from.
Rasmussen, 21, came up through a top flight academy in Denmark, FC North Zealand, and recently ended a stint with Danish second division club BK Søllerød-Vedbæk (bet you didn’t think I could find Danish alphabet characters, did you?). Mag Ram, as I’m going to call him, is left footed and projects to be more involved in the attacking midfield in O’Connor’s 4-2-3-1. You might find this hard to believe, but there aren’t a lot of Danish 2nd division YouTube highlight packages for MagRam out there, so we’ll just have to let him make his own this season.
Niall McCabe, 24, will likely fill a similar role for Louisville City, but perhaps on the other side of the field. McCabe played college soccer here in the States, and had great success with Young Harris College, scoring 15 goals with 10 assists his junior season. If you don’t follow college soccer very closely, that’s a lot. More recently, McCabe has featured for respected NPSL side Chattanooga FC, which provides fodder for some Twisted Sister-cover-band-accompanied YouTube highlights hnyah:
I’m guessing Coach O’Connor, also an Irish national, saw maybe a little of himself in McCabe, and hopefully we get to see how that manifests itself on the field soon.
We’re a player away from a starting roster, with more player announcements expected soon. Keep in touch!
