WHO, AGAIN?

I’ll forgive you if you forgot that Louisville City was a soccer club and not a real estate development company. But, in addition to negotiating purchase options, local government approval on state tax increment financing districts, and explaining structured repayment plans to councilfolk who may or may not actually care about how they work, Louisville City also plays soccer!

They haven’t played it particularly well in the past week or so, unfortunately. And they’re without three of their best players thanks to international duty this weekend: Devon “Speedy” Williams, Greg Ranjitsingh, and Mark-Anthony Kaye will not be wearing purple on Saturday because they’re awesome. Ilja Ilic and Cameron Lancaster are injured. I’ve got some concerns about how healthy Brian Ownby really is.

But. BUT! This is still the best team in the Eastern Conference. Granted, there’s nothing to play for other than pride and entertainment on Saturday. That’s never stopped me from dominating my niece and nephew in a game of Trivial Pursuit, and it won’t slow our boys in purple down, either.

Charlotte is still quite good, but that white-hot run of form they were in about a month or so ago has cooled considerably of late. They’ve lost three in a row, two to good teams and once to Cincinnati. They’re winless since September 2. They’ve only scored once since then.

But the Indies still have Alex and Enzo Martinez, their keeper is still pretty solid, Jorge Herrera is still pulling strings in the midfield. This is still a really, really good team that kind of embarrassed LouCity down in Matthews in our last meeting. I’d like to make up for that. Win one for King George II.

COME ON, CITY!
