Charleston Battery, 10-2-4, 34 points, 1st place Eastern Conference

WHAT:

The second of two trips down to Daniel Island for a league USL match for 2017

WHEN:

Saturday, July 8, 2017, 7:00 p.m.

WHERE:

MUSC Health Stadium, 1990 Daniel Island Drive, Charleston, SC 29492

WATCH:

Obviously it’s an away game, so we don’t totally expect you to make the 10 hour drive to catch the game in person. You’re a real mensch if you do, though! The club watch part is at the BoomBozz Taphouse on South Hurstbourne in J-Town, so join them! Saints will also have the game, as always, which follows the USMNT match against Panama pretty closely. Naturally Against the Grain, Molly Malone’s, and Great Flood Brewing are great options. If you can’t make it to one of those fun places, you can still watch the match on WMYO 58, listen on 840 WHAS, or stream it on YouTube right here.

WHO, AGAIN?

The Batts! We know these guys. They’re the same team as they ever were, just winning lots more games than usual. As we’ve mentioned, their big target forward Romario Williams is out on international duty with Jamaica. Luckily, that removes the USL’s leading goalscorer from the equation, but it doesn’t account for the other 22 goals the Battery have scored this season.

On our last visit to MUSC Health Stadium, the Battery exposed City several times on the counter-attack. This was, in part, due to the fact that Team Purple was still adjusting to playing with a three man defensive line, and were using Guy Abend as a central defender. Guy is many things, one of them being handsome, but a central defender he is not. As we’ve seen, with one hiccup in eastern Pennsylvania, City has adjusted to the three man defense quite well since then.

The Battery are still a hot team. They don’t really disguise what they do; they’re just executing on a higher level this season. Louisville City will need to be patient in possession and careful not to get caught with too high a defensive line. I like to think this team has turned quite the corner in the last month. The last result LouCity picked up in Charleston might not have been deserved. This one is a bit more important in terms of the standings. Let’s go get it.

COME ON, CITY!
