Per Jonathan Lintner at the Courier-Journal and LCFC’s website, the club’s preseason schedule has been finalized. Louisville City will play three of the regions large state schools (University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Indiana University), as well as three smaller college teams (Young Harris College, University of Evansville, and Lindsey Wilson College) in the run-up to the start of the USL season on March 28.

You can bet Costa Rica is glad they’re not on that schedule.

As far as college soccer teams go, LCFC’s preseason opponents are some of the best you’ll find in the country. IU are the New York Yankees of Division I college soccer with more NCAA Championships than any other school; Louisville has become a fixture in the NSCAA rankings under Ken Lolla; and Kentucky is a program on the rise, coming off one of its most successful seasons ever in which it nearly won the regular season title in a difficult Conference USA and made its second NCAA tournament appearance in three seasons. The small schools on the list aren’t slouches either: Lindsey Wilson has won nine NAIA championships; Evansville had a very strong run of NCAA Tournament appearances in the 80’s and 90’s and still do well in the MVC; and Young Harris has become a Division II powerhouse. All six opponents will be very good tests for our boys in (presumably) purple.

As you can probably see from the schedule, the first game is next Wednesday here in Louisville, which brings up some questions such as: Who’s gonna tend goal? Is it gonna be five on five because Louisville City only has ten guys on the roster at the moment? What will this cold weather do to Matt Fondy’s hair? Either way, I’m sure Coach O’Connor and the team are interested to see how they play, given that the team has yet to be able to practice out of doors thanks to Snowmageddon 2015.
