Our more or less weekly roundup of USL news. Best enjoyed with coffee or the beer your friends left in your fridge last weekend.

It was, as usual, a busy weekend in the USL. We finally got a look at that supercalifragilisticexpialacrappy field that St. Louis FC fans have been sooooo vocal about,Rochester Rhinos might be legit, and NYRB II isn’t so tough when they aren’t fielding an MLS team in a USL competition:

Humor me for a minute while I check the @loucoopers mentions before St. Louis FC’s home opener last Saturday night:

And now, St. Louis FC vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds:

Wait, just 5,200?

Are they playing on a tarp? The Astrodome had more realistic turf on it that that thing.

Lesson: If a STLFC fan tells you it’s gonna rain, better grab the sunscreen. The Saints gave up a 2nd half goal to Pittsburgh Riverhounds to disappoint their already disillusioned fans and spoil their home opener with a draw.

Elsewhere in the league:

  • LCFC’s next opponent, Rochester Rhinos, took 3 points on the road in Montreal with some style on Saturday.
  • Playing with their actual USL roster this time, NYRB II got blanked at home by the visiting Wilmington Hammerheads.
  • Real Monarchs SLC got an advantage early in their home opener against Portland Timbers 2 with the Lil’ Timbers going down to 10 men with the score tied 1-1, but failed to get a goal out of it and had to settle for a draw.
  • Mr. Lower Division Soccer Chad Hollingsworth (happy birthday, Chad!) put together some power rankings prior to last weekend’s contests; LCFC gets 3rd in the East.
